Darmstadt Summer Course will be celebrating 70 years this season and Edition Peters is excited to have a strong presence through the two week program. Rebecca Saunders will lead a flute composition workshop and Mark Andre will present a lecture on his reflections on über for clarinet, orchestra and electronics. Brian Ferneyhough will have prominent role in workshops and panel discussions as he will be leading a cello composition workshop as well as guest speaking on a four day panel concerning philosophy and art.
In terms of performances, Roger Reynolds will have a world premiere of Passage 11 (2016) performed by Irvine Arditti, the Arditti Quartet, Paul Hembee, as well as Reynolds himself. Reynolds will also be leading a discussion and performance of Shifting/Drifting (2014/2015) which will explore the process of algorithmically morphing imagE/violin and imAge/violin to create Shifting/Drifting. Other performances include John Cage’s Concert for Piano and Orchestra (1958), Mauricio Kagel’s Finale mit Kammerensemble(1980/81), Ferneyhough’s Firecycle Beta. Symphonic Torso (1969-71), String Quartet No. 3 (1989/90) and Saunder’s still – choreographische version (2011/16).
