Roger Reynolds’ FLiGHT will receive its first complete performances at the end of October on the 30th and 31st. The theme of the piece focuses on humankind and its fascination with flying. The JACK Quartet will perform the piece in real time with pre-recorded text from historical sources, several multi projection surfaces, real-time algorithmic sound processing and multi-channel distribution. This innovative piece is commissioned by the JACK Quartet with the National Gallery of Art. Partners include the James Madison University, The Phillips Collection, Mount Tremper Arts, the University of California, the Dean of Arts and Humanities at UCSD, the Department of Music at UCSD, the ATLAS Institute at the University of Colorado Boulder, the Park Avenue Armory, the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, the San Diego Air and Space Museum and Caltech’s NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
