Absalon fili mi

/ Josquin des Prez / Pierre de la Rue
Vocal Score
In Stock

This motet has long been considered one of Josquin's best and most characteristic works. In recent years, however, several scholars have presented convincing arguments (though based on circumstantial evidence) that its author may have been Pierre de la Rue, composer for a quarter of a century to the Hapsburg-Burgundian court.

NDC Editions, Inc. was founded in 1999 to furnish choral singers with reliable, reasonably priced editions of significant and attractive a cappella motets drawn from the lesser-known areas of the sacred choral music repertory. Appearing under the imprint Notre Dame Choir Editions, the catalog features polyphonic motets from the early to late Renaissance that have not been published before, or have appeared in editions that are relatively inaccessible, cost-prohibitive, or difficult for modern performers to use. Each composition has been chosen for its intrinsic beauty, singability, and usefulness in a liturgial context. NDC Edition scores balance the demands of historically informed scholarship with practical considerations for the non-specialist mixed-voice choir. This modern approach to the presentation of the musical texts stems from experience rehearsing and performing Renaissance polyphony with moderately experienced amateur and semi-professional choral groups.

Notre Dame Choir Editions feature: large-size, easy-to-read format; spacious, uncluttered musical texts printed on heavy paper; original texts, translations & suggestions for liturgical use; word underlay, transpositions, and performer accidentals fully considered; editorial commentary with sources, historical, and biographical information
