Dove’s Flight to Premiere in Canada

With record-high numbers of forcibly displaced peoples in the world today (some 70.8 million individuals in 2018, according to statistics), composer Jonathan Dove’s Flight is taking off in Canada right on time. Pacific Opera Victoria will host the Canadian premiere tomorrow, February 20, 2020, with three additional performances to follow. The work packs a timely punch that counterbalances tensions with moments of still beauty and cheeky dark humor, perhaps serving to galvanize conversation on this topic of utmost relevance (to learn more about our own history of displacement, read here).

Performances will be held at the Royal Theatre in Victoria, British Columbia. Evening dates are Thursday, February 20, Saturday February 22, and Friday, February 28, 2020; all show times are at 8:00 p.m. (PST). The run will close with a single matinee performance on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. (PST). The opera is sung in English (English surtitles will be provided courtesy of the venue). Follow along with the vocal score or the full score, both available here on our website.

For tickets or more information, visit or The Royal Theatre box office can also be reached by calling 250-386-6121 (Local)/ 1-888-717-6121 (Toll-Free). Tickets start at CAD $29.
